About SafetyWire
Updated 2026-10-30
SafetyWire helps people pass the FAA A&P written tests. Most of our readers qualify through work experience or the military. They study on a phone, often after a shift.
Who is behind it
Austin Stout
Founder and Editor
Austin runs an aircraft parts business and built SafetyWire to give self-study mechanics a clear, cited path to the A&P. He is not an A&P mechanic. Every technical page is reviewed by a licensed A&P/IA before it's marked reviewed.
Who checks the content
A licensed A&P mechanic with Inspection Authorization (an A&P/IA) checks every guide and question. Until that check is done, the page shows "Review pending" and questions are marked as beta.
How we make the content
Every guide and practice question starts from a public FAA document. That means the handbooks, the Airman Certification Standards, the advisory circulars, the forms, the FAA's test statistics, and 14 CFR. Each page lists its sources at the bottom, with document and page numbers. The full list is on the sources page.
What we will not say
We are not affiliated with or endorsed by the FAA. The FAA does not approve study courses, ours included. Studying with us does not count toward the experience or school rule in 14 CFR § 65.77. Your FSDO decides whether you can test.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it and log it on the errata page. Send corrections to hello@safetywire.org or use the contact page.
